This photo of a Piper Cub over a pool in Yellowstone dramatically exhibits the use of color pallets, jagged lines and other so-called rules of dominance.  The vantage point is also featured in this shot.  This photo won Best of the West 2011 contest awards.

Photo Techniques

Though this piece is centered on automotive photography, the techniques are universal. These photos are dramatic examples of capturing lightning in still images.  Maeder says he used ISO 400 and a 25 sec. exposure, with a 24mm lens at f/8 on the photo below which was a long enough exposure to capture the two separate lightning strikes in the same image. A flashlight was used to illuminate the foreground elements of this scene during the long exposure.

This is a very special post dedicated to my friend Jackson Bell, who was also a high school classmate of mine back in the day. Jackson is not a professional photographer by any means, but he has built up a keen eye, camera sense and an able photo bag that really put it all together.

This shot (left) is one of my personal favorites. A picture of the Marias in the setting summer sun. ISO 100, F22, 1/3"
